‘God Bless the Squatters’ date : 2011 size : 8½” x 11½” medium : collage notes : With the proposed criminalisation of squatting on the agenda, the artist, who previously spent ten years squatting, addresses this erosion of the rights of the citizen in this collage, which depicts a family's ‘1st. night in a squat’. comment : “Cottars and Borderers are the old British names for squatters. With so many empty buildings and a shortage of housing, this ancient right will become a criminal offence. What is the alternative? The re-introduction of Workhouses? Homes for all.”
